Nagaland’s Next Top Player: Season 2 finalists announced

Selected players of Season 2 Nagaland’s Next Top Players.

KOHIMA, MAY 14 (MExN): The Season 2 of Nagaland’s Next Top Player, a talent hunt aimed at identifying promising footballers from the state for international opportunities, concluded on Wednesday with four players selected for a one-month trial at Thonburi United Football Club in Thailand.

The two selected players are Laiwang Bohham and Kevisanyu Peseyie, while Bepeto Assumi and Enyiebe Thopi secured wild card entries, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports said in a press statement.

The talent hunt, organised by the department in collaboration with Nagaland Football Association, Progressive Sports Consultants, and SC Nagaland/Thonburi United Thailand, began with open trials at Chümoukedima Football Stadium on May 12.

The initiative offers the selected players a fully sponsored month-long training and trial program in Thailand in July 2025. Prior to their overseas stint, the finalists will undergo six weeks of preparatory training under Progressive Sports Consultants in Nagaland.

The program aims to create a professional pathway for indigenous footballers from the state. It follows the success of Meceivi Khieya, winner of Season 1, who signed an eight-month professional contract with Thonburi United in Bangkok.
