Nagaland’s reports 16 new COVID cases, one more death

Dimapur, October 18 (MExN): The cumulative tally of COVID-19 infections in Nagaland rose to 31,627 with the confirmation of 16 new cases on Monday. One more fatality was reported from Mon district.

The new cases were detected among 602 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours returning a daily positivity rate of 2.66 percent. Dimapur district reported the highest number of cases with 10, followed by Mokokchung with 4, Kohima (1), and Mon (1).

According to the daily health bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, 10 of the new cases were detected from self tests and random tests, 5 from traced contacts, and 1 from returnees/travellers.  

On the other hand a total of 9 patients who had previously tested positive for the virus, recuperated on Monday taking the tally of recoveries to 29,676. The recoveries were reported from Dimapur (6) and Kohima (3). 

With this, the state’s active case tally is at 252 and the COVID death toll rose to 660. A total of 15 other deaths were categorised as ‘Non COVID deaths (with COVID positivity)’ in the IDSP bulletin.

Case distribution among districts
Among the districts, Dimapur has the highest number of active cases with 126, followed by 48 in Kohima, and 30 in Tuensang. There are 25 active cases in Mokokchung, 8 each in Phek and Longleng, 3 in Mon, 2 in Peren, and 1 each in Kiphire and Wokha. Zunheboto is the only district with zero active cases. As for Noklak district which does not have a separate surveillance unit yet, the district data is clubbed together with Tuensang district.

In terms of severity of cases, 191 of the active cases are said to be asymptomatic, 43 are mild symptomatic and 6 are ‘moderate on oxygen’ according to the IDSP. Among those with severe symptoms, 6 are on oxygen support and another 6 are admitted in the ICU and are on ventilators.
