Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today informed that the present status of the State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP) for the financial year 2022- 2023 stands at Rs. 22,111 Crore (Advance Estimate).
Replying to an unstarred question raised by MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, the CM informed that the SGDP for the financial year 2021-22 stand at Rs 20,315 crore (Quick Estimate).
The growth rate of SGDP for the financial year 2021- 22 (Quick Estimate) stands at 9.09 % and for the year 2022-23 (Advance Estimate) at 8.84%. Nagaland ranked 26th in the SGDP among the 28 states of India.
On being asked about steps being taken by the government to improve SGDP, Rio informed that to improve the growth potential of all the sectors of the economy, the state’s capital outlay on development has been increased from Rs. 2616.66 crore in 2021-22 to Rs. 3029.63 crore in 2022-23.
To facilitate the development of entrepreneurship in the state, Chief Minister's Micro Finance Initiative and Start-up Nagaland scheme have been started to infuse resources in the economy for valued addition.
Rio stated that Underdeveloped Areas Programme is being implemented specifically in road sector, social and infrastructure sector and human resources development to provide infrastructural development and bridge regional disparity.
Multi training centres have been established in Kohima and Dimapur to provide skill training to unemployed youth to harness demographic dividends of the state.
To enhance the tourism sector's contribution to Gross State Domestic Product, several projects have been undertaken including the establishment of tourist trekking and base camp at Mt Saramati, Thanamir, Kiphire District.
To strengthen the state’s data-base for estimation of GSDP and effective policy making, the Department of Economics & Statistics conducts survey and studies such as economic census to assess the number of existing business establishments as well as the labour inputs involved in the business establishments, survey on minor minerals and others services to estimate the Gross Value of Output and Cost of Cultivation studies to bring out the input rates.
