Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse today underscored the need for students to think differently and critically, not only for personal growth but to excel in life.

Addressing the students of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma during its 61st fresher social as the special guest, Kruse said, ‘in addition to the academic curriculum, it has become essential for students to think critically and differently without fear to drive innovation, to solve problems and stimulate curiosity.’

Observing that most people has a penchant to follow the same old road and be in the comfort zone without making an effort to make any change in their lives, she asserted that young people, particularly students must dare to think differently to stimulate their creativity and drive innovations and technology ahead of us.

Stating that problem solving is the key skill required for adapting to change and facing challenges, she urged the students to develop this skill inorder to overcome problems and challenges in all aspects of their lives.

Citing the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon by the ISRO recently, Kruse said this was possible due to the critical thinking and curiosity of the minds of the people involved in it.

“Nagas are no different from the rest of others in the world,” said the Minister adding that students as the youth and future of tomorrow must develop the curiosity within themselves if they want to excel and bring change in the society.

She lauded the college for making remarkable achievements since its establishment in 1961 which started with 21 students, and presently has an enrolment of more than 1700 students. Kruse also acknowledged the pioneers and founders of the college for their farsighted vision for the Nagas that Kohima Science College become a centre of research driven education hub of both national and international institution. She was optimistic that the College will continue to maintain high academic standards in accordance with the national framework and evolving academic and social benchmark.

The Minister also gave away the Governor’s Award in memory of late Captain N Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra for the year 2023 to Munuho Lohe (Geography) and Neingusanuo Kire (Botany).

It was informed that the Governor’s Award was conceptualised in 2018 in memory of late Captain N. Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra, and is awarded to the top performing undergraduate student in both the male and female categories with a minimum score of 80% in academic and commendable achievement in extracurricular activities.

Founding Fathers Awards under Dr Neilhouzhü K Angami award for Life Sciences; Vizol Angami award for Physics; JB Jasokie award for Chemistry and Rev Haizotuo Munshi award for Mathematics and Computer Science; K Sekhose award for Anthropology and English; Future Rock Star Award; Stellar Award and Geographia Award were also given away to the undergraduate Gold Medallists.

Later, the Minister also toured the college campus and visited the zoology museum, Tenyidie department and the hostels.
