Nagaland State PWD Minister, Tongpang Ozukum today said that Nagas cannot effort to live in isolation. “We cannot live alone whether it is within and outside our land. Therefore we must have better understating, we must unite and surge higher with one culture, one voice and one vision, if we are to compete and be at par with others,” Ozukum said while addressing the 1st fresher’s social cum cultural session of six federating units of Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Kohima here at NBCC Convention Centre under the theme “Fraternisation with one culture.”

Stating that that Naga society today seems to be in great disorder, he said: “Our society is a fragmented society. We are becoming too individualistic.”

He lamented that as long as “we get what we want, we are least bothered about others. We are becoming too self-centered. Therefore, at this very crucial juncture, youth have an important role to play.”

The Minister also called for a sense of unity and understanding between the central and eastern; and between the western and the southern Nagas. Unless there is a trust between us, Naga people will never progress, rather we will slowly but surely submerge into this global world, he cautioned.

Eastern Nagaland lacking in all aspects: ENSF

Also speaking at the function, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) President, Sepili Sangtam lamented that eastern Nagaland is lacking in all aspects.

Urging the state government to develop the state equally, he regretted that even as the state entered into 54 years of statehood, there is development disparity in eastern Nagaland.

He made a fervent appeal to state government that it is high time to establish reputed educational institutes and university in eastern Nagaland. “Government needs to rethink and develop Nagaland equally,” he said.   The ENSF President also insisted that the government ensure total implementation of the 25% job reservation policy.
