New Delhi, June 4 (MExN): An interactive meeting was held among Naga elders, intellectuals, professionals, student leaders and well wishers living in Delhi along with Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio on June 3 in New Delhi.
The meeting was initiated by likeminded Nagas of Delhi with AC Kharingpam as convenor, a press release informed. The meeting discussed various issues faced currently by the Nagas, such as the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015 and NPF fiasco in Nagaland. The members expressed appreciations as well as concerns about the progress of the Framework Agreement, the release issued by AC Kharingpam said.
While appreciating Neiphiu Rio for his leadership and his contribution to the pursuit of the cause of the Nagas, the members present expressed their apprehension about the recent development within the Naga People’s Front (NPF), it said. The members held that significant opportunity such as the recently signed accord should not be dampened by individual interest and insecurities of few leaders.
Observing the “inconsistencies” of the showcase notice that eventually led to Rio’s suspension from NPF, the members acknowledged the contributions of the MP in the socio-political and economic progress of the Naga society.
According to the release, the members reiterated that “Neiphiu Rio has spent his life entirely, serving and sacrificing for the betterment of the Naga society which cannot be belittled and be forgotten by the Naga society.” The members, it added, expressed that the suspension of the MP was uncalled for.
While urging the NPF leadership and various stakeholders to let good sense and sound judgement prevail, the members present opined that “not revoking the suspension statement will amount to nothing less than playing with and belittling the magnanimous contribution of the Neiphiu Rio,” the release said.
The meeting further urged that restoration of the MP in NPF party be expedited without any further delay.
