Dimapur, March 5 (MExN): The President of India has appointed Nand Kishore Yadav as the new Governor of Nagaland as part of a wider gubernatorial reshuffle announced by Droupadi Murmu on March 5.
According to an official communiqué issued by the President’s office, Yadav’s appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of the office.
Yadav is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a long-time political figure from Bihar.
Yadav was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly multiple times, representing the Patna East and later the Patna Sahib constituencies from 1995 until 2025. During his political career, he served in several ministerial roles in the Government of Bihar, including Minister for Road Construction, Health and Family Welfare, and Tourism under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2013 to 2015. In February 2024, Yadav was elected as the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, a position he held until 2025.
Yadav’s appointment comes amid a broader set of gubernatorial changes announced by the President.
RN Ravi to be new West Bengal Gov
Former Nagaland Governor RN Ravi has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal.
The development comes after CV Ananda Bose resigned from the post ahead of the state’s Assembly elections. Ravi, who is currently serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, is expected to take over the position in West Bengal following the resignation.
A “shocked” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Tamil Nadu Governor and ex-deputy NSA, RN Ravi, will hold additional charge of West Bengal following Bose's exit. Bose, who was appointed Bengal governor on November 17, 2022, told PTI: “Yes, I have resigned. I have been the Governor of Bengal for three-and-a-half years; it's enough for me.”
He, however, did not disclose the grounds of his sudden resignation and whether there was any political pressure that may have prompted his decision.
Banerjee alleged that there's a likelihood of Bose being forced to resign “under pressure” from Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of the assembly elections.
