Naruvi Hospitals performs complex and rare surgery

Vellore, March 8 (Agencies): Naruvi Hospitals in Vellore has recently successfully performed a complex eight-hour surgery on a patient from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh under coma after a blood vessel burst in the brain.

According to a press release, the surgery lasted 8 hours and was performed under the supervision of a highly skilled team of surgeons and under the highest quality medical supervision.

Speaking to the media after the procedure, Dr GV Sampath, Chairman, Naruvi Hospitals said that few months ago, Murali, hailing from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh was admitted at Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, in an unconscious condition and with a swelling on his head.
A team of neurosurgeons, cardiac surgeons, and anaesthetists, held discussions and decided to perform a surgery to plug the pipe burst to enable normal blood flow.

A team of doctors led by neurosurgeon Dr Paul Henry, Dr Boopesh Pugazhendhi, Dr Sivakumar, and cardio surgeon Dr Vinayak Shukla, among others did the surgery where the patient’s blood was temporarily diverted from his body using a heart-lung machine, which kept the blood flowing and oxygenated while the heart was stopped. To prevent blood clotting, special medications were added.

The patient was able to recover fully a few days after surgery. “I lost my consciousness after I developed a problem in the brain. While I was taken to a local hospital in my hometown, facilities were barely enough to treat my complex problem. I have recovered fully and re-joined my work,” said Murali, the patient.

GV Sampath, Chairman, Naruvi Hospitals, congratulated the medical team of highly skilled and accomplished surgeons for the procedure that has resulted in the full recovery of the patient.
