NASSA to continue agitation indefinitely

The pen down strike of the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) entered its sixth day on June 9, protesting the appointment order of Dr PJ Antony (retired officer) to the post of Principal Secretary in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the NASSA held a meeting today and re-affirmed to adhere to its earlier resolution to fight for the revocation of the appointment order.

It stated that the agitation by the NASSA would continue indefinitely, adding that an ultimatum has been served to the competent authority to revoke/cancel the appointment order latest by June 13.

In the event of failure to address this ultimatum within the specified period, the JAC said that it would prevent the officer from entering the premises of the NLA Secretariat Complex.

The JAC Secretary Sezoto Theyo and NASSA General Secretary Talirenla further cautioned that any undesired situation arising out of forceful entry into the Secretariat premises, Dr PJ Antony shall be doing so, at his own risk.

The JAC said it was unfortunate that, in spite of several representations and continuous agitation in the form of a pen down strike, no progress has been made on the issue. It expressed concern that the NLA Speaker has been “dodging the repercussions caused by your office in extending the service/overstay of a retired government officer beyond the date of superannuation which had adversely de-motivated the officers and staff of this secretariat.”

It meanwhile stated that as the next course of action, the JAC would resort to take the matter to the streets.
