The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) along with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in its meeting here today, decided to further continue with the ongoing agitation for three more days from June 8 to 10 to express resentment over the appointment of Dr PJ Antony (Retired Officer) to the post of Principal Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
The manner of the agitation shall remain the same- i.e. - pen down strike and wearing black badge, informed NASSA General Secretary Talirenla and JAC Secretary Sezoto Theyo.
NASSA informed that in spite of its agitation in the form of pen down strike entering the fourth day, the competent Authority still turned a deaf ear to the representations submitted earlier.
The Association informed that it would continue to fight till the appointment of a retired officer in NLA Secretariat is revoked.
ENSF extends solidarity
Meanwhile, the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) extended solidarity to NASSA and appealed to the state government to examine the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Service Rules Amendment notification dated May 18, 2022 and nullify the appointment of Dr. PJ Anthony.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Federation stated that it had deliberated the notification at length and condemned the “arbitrary action” of the Commissioner and Secretary for Revision/Amendments of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules 1999.
It said that the Cadre Review Committee/Service Rules Amendment Committee, which was constituted on October 3, 2020, and re-notified on March 24, 2022 “was due to submit on or before June 30, 2022.”
“However, the Service Rules Amendment notification was approved on May 18, 2022 prior to the submission by the constituent Committee,”
“The government should not maintain neutrality in meeting the justification in the common interest, hence, any matter based on favouritism shouldn’t be entertained at any level to ensure future complications,” it added, appealing to the State government to re-examine the Amendment and nullify the appointment of Dr PJ Anthony in the larger interest of the government employees of the state.
