Phek, January 31 (MExN): Phek District National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) observed Anti Leprosy Day and Sparsh Leprosy campaign at the Deputy Commissioner Conference hall, under the theme “Ending Stigma’ Embracing Dignity” on January 30.
The annual Anti Leprosy Day is observed with the aim to address the issues of stigma and discrimination associated with leprosy and raise awareness among the people which is affecting the community at large in many aspects of life, due to lack of awareness and knowledge, stated a press release received here.
Dr Ebenezer Phesao, DTO Phek in his keynote address spoke on the theme and shared the origin, causative agent, signs and symptoms, treatment and its complication. He stressed on the stigma associated with the disease and how to take corrective measures. Leprosy is curable and appealed all the participants to strive together to achieve a leprosy free world, he added.
In a short speech, Kuko Mero, NCS Deputy Commissioner Phek spoke on National Anti Leprosy Day and importance associated with it. He also assured to give his support for the programme and encouraged all the staffs to give their best efforts to end Leprosy.
Anti leprosy Pledge was also read out by all the participants.
Sparsh leprosy Awareness Campaign (SLAC) will be implemented across the district till February 13 in all the five blocks. Various awareness activities will be carried out by the Health Care workers.
Earlier, the welcome note was delivered by Sede Rupreo DPM (NHM) while the invocation was said by Wavitho Pastor PBC Phek. The programme was chaired by Kuduvo Kezo DPO DAPCU and vote of thanks was pronounced by Dihutho Sr PMS (NLEP).
