Kohima, February 17 (MExN): The Chairman of National Commission of India for Safai Karamcharis, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Manhar Valjibhai Zala and his team visited the state capital Kohima and held a meeting with the representatives of Safai Karamcharis employees, Wards and NGO (Green Team Kohima) on February 17 at KMC Conference Hall.

 


A DIPR report stated that while speaking on the importance of the welfare of Safai Karamcharis, the Chairman asserted that the cleanliness has become a competition in the country with the initiative of Prime Minister considering health is wealth and added that cleanliness should come before the Doctor. 

 


He pointed out that Karamcharis are the people who have been working day and night, putting their lives in risk to protect the nation from diseases and germs with their limited wages. Adding that the purpose of his visit was to receive the grievances of the Safai Karamcharis which have not been heard for many years and to discuss the welfare scheme, and programme meant for Safai Karamcharis and other related issues. He also interacted with the Karamcharis and took note of their grievances.

 


Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Himato Zhimomi said that the visit from Ministry was an eye opener for a KMC to receive the views of Karamcharis and exhorted that “we could be as clean as Karamcharis, if the Karamcharis are not happy then our city also could not be happy”. He suggested the visiting team to provide them a proper health care assistance and minimum wages to lead respectable lives especially for their children’s education

 


Highlighting the initiatives taken as an NGO, representative from Green Team Kohima, Akhrie said that the team has been taken initiatives in collaboration with the KMC under the 100 smart cities which was implemented in 2019 all over India. 

 


Stating that the team has covered all the 19 wards in Kohima by appointing co-ordinators and volunteers in all the wards where all wards chairman has contributed to the present condition of the city. Adding that during the advocacy and awareness campaign on cleanliness and waste segregation management, the team in collaboration with KMC and Karamcharis has covered 22 schools and 10 colleges in and around Kohima to improve the cleanliness and waste management.

 


The Commission and his team also visit SEPTAGE Management Unit Funded under ADB Assisted NERCCDIP/NERUDP at Meriema Kohima. The team was accompanied by the Department of Social welfare, Urban Development, Administration and KMC.
