Dimapur, November 1 (MExN): Nagaland added another medal in the ongoing 2023 National Games in Goa, courtesy of Sudhir Chauhan in Taekwondo.
Chauhan, who represented Nagaland in the Men’s Under 87 kg category, managed to secure a bronze medal for the state.
Jay Nilesh Kimayagar of Gujarat and Manjeet Singh of Rajasthan respectively won gold and silver in the category. Chauhan shares the bronze with the other losing semifinalist, Pramod Joshi of Services Sports Control Board.
Meanwhile, Nagaland’s Chief Minister took to X, formerly Twitter, to congratulate the feat on October 31.
“He qualified for the Games by representing Nagaland at Senior Nationals. I also congratulate Team Coach Visabiu Peseyie for the mentorship. I wish them more success,” he posted.
With this, Nagaland’s tally in the games has increased to 4 in India’s ongoing homegrown Olympics.
Previously, on October 27, Liike Kibami, along with Hinokali and Avikali V Sheqi, secured a bronze in the Pencak Silat Regu event.
Then on October 28, Kibami won her second medal, a silver in the Pencak Silat Tanding 55-60 kg.
However, the most significant achievement was on Sunday when Nagaland’s Kitenlo Thono secured an emphatic 30-18 victory over Akash Deep of Punjab to win gold in the 90-95 kg category in Men’s Tanding (match).
