Kohima, April 12 (MExN): On declaration of the state main highway as National Highway No 61 starting from Kohima to Jhansi (Assam) on February 9, 1998, this project has been included under the Prime Minister’s package. All the improvement works at different stretches as identified by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways are under good progress, according to available source.
During 2004-05, seven projects have been sanctioned and the works are in progress. And during 2005-06, four projects have been sanctioned and the tender is under finalization. 15 projects have been proposed for the year 2006-07, source added.
The Roads and Bridges department is the executing agency of the National highway works (MORT & H). Annual budgetary provisions and identification/selection of projects are done by the Ministry. Further, all release of fund and payments are directly done by the Regional Office, MORT &H, Guwahati.
