Kohima, March 12 (MExN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) today conducted National Lok Adalat throughout the State of Nagaland. The Lok Adalat was conducted on traffic, bank cases, civil & criminal matters by the respective District Legal Services Authority.
Presiding Judges were assisted by Panel Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers and Traffic Police personnel for traffic cases and Bank Managers and their personnel in bank matters.
A total of 707 cases were taken up and total of 448 cases were disposed with a settlement amount of Rs. 8,31,173.
The next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on April 9 on Labour & Family Matters/ Municipal Matters in all the district headquarters.
Mobile Lok Adalat at Peducha Check Gate
As part of National Lok Adalat, Kohima District Legal Services Authority conducted a mobile Lok Adalat at Peducha Check Gate on March 12 to check on the vehicles plying without proper registration, insurance coverage, pollution certificate, driving licence and fitness certificate.
According to a press release, before the checking started, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima highlighted the purpose of the mobile Lok Adalat, which was to ensure safety of all the vehicle owners, the passengers as well as the pedestrians as per the provisions of law. She also briefed the team to be cautious and make the drivers/owners of the vehicle understand the purpose of the checking and the provisions as mandated.
Most of the vehicles plying on National Highway 29 were found without proper documents – some vehicles were without insurance coverage, some with expired insurance policy, others without pollution and fitness certificate, and some drivers were even driving without a license, the release said. “Surprisingly, the ignorance of the vehicle owners is alarming,” it added. Around 224 private vehicles were checked, out of which, 132 vehicles were without proper vehicle documents and notice of summoned were issued to the defaulters on different dates for production of proper documents by imposing a petty fine to the defaulters. Total amount deposited to the Government exchequer was Rs. 26,400/-.
The Mobile Lok Adalat was conducted by Chief Judicial Magistrate Kohima & Secretary KDLSA with the assistance of panel lawyers, traffic police personnel, police personnel from the North Police Station and police personnel from the court.
187 defaulters fined in Dimapur
The Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) with the assistance of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and District Transport Office conducted a mobile Lok Adalat on March 12 at the DC Court Junction and 7th Mile, Dimapur.
The purpose of the Adalat was to create awareness regarding the mandatory requirement of possession of valid vehicle documents. Four hundred vehicles were checked, out of which, 187 were found to be defaulters. In this regard, the personnel of the DCP (Traffic) imposed fines amounting to a total of Rs. 41,450/-. Meanwhile, N. Kanuo, Chairman, DDLSA who is also the District and Sessions Judge, Dimapur, spoke on the impact of Legal Service Authorities Act in the State and other beneficial laws at the ongoing Youth Camp organized by Youth Department of Chakhesang Baptist Church Dimapur.
