National One Health workshop begins in Jalukie

Jalukie, February 24 (MExN): A seven-day National Workshop on ‘Strengthening One Health Capacities in North-East India: AMR, Food Safety and Wildlife Interfaces with Molecular Approaches’ was inaugurated on February 24 at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (CVSc & AH), Jalukie, a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University.

The workshop, scheduled from February 24 to March 2 is funded by the Department of Health Research, Indian Council of Medical Research under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration under the One Health framework across the North-East region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr. Mereninla Senlem, Principal Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, as Chief Guest; Dr. Imomanen Tzudir, Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Government of Nagaland, as Guest of Honour; Ms. Simmi Tiwari, Joint Director & Head, Centre for One Health, National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi, as Special Guest; and H. Tokaho Kinimi, IFS, Wildlife Warden, Wildlife Division, Dimapur, as Distinguished Guest.

 

In her address, the Chief Guest stressed the urgent need to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR), emerging zoonotic diseases, and food safety challenges through integrated surveillance and coordinated interdepartmental efforts. Other speakers underscored the role of veterinary services, wildlife surveillance, and the need to strengthen molecular diagnostic capacity in the region.

A highlight of the inaugural programme was the formal release of the Workshop Compendium, edited by Dr. Raghubir Singh and others. The compendium features scientific articles and policy perspectives on AMR, food safety, wildlife–livestock–human interfaces, and molecular approaches in disease surveillance.

The workshop comprises expert lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, panel discussions and policy dialogues. It is being organised under the leadership of the Dean, CVSc & AH, Jalukie, with Dr. Raghubir Singh serving as Organizing Secretary.

Dr. Raghubir Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology, CVSc & AH, Jalukie, informed that the initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening One Health systems in North-East India.
