National Science Day: ‘Fostering Scientific Temper’

Kohima: The Department of Science & Technology and the District Education Officer, Kohima, Government of Nagaland organized National Science Day 2014 under the theme ‘Fostering Scientific Temper’ at Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS), Kohima with Secretary, Science & Technology, Nagaland C. Nehekhu as chief guest on February 28.

C. Nehekhu said that the purpose of observing National Science Day was to popularize and to draw attention of the students. Nehekhu stressing on the day of national science said it means to be understood and practiced including quality in decision making in science. The Secretary also read out the different themes of National Science Day for refreshing minds of the students.

In the results of the quiz competition, first position went to Dziesevi from Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Tanupreet from Corragio School, Kelesetonü from Mezhür Hr. Sec. School, Monikho Simon from St. Mary’s Cathedral Hr. Sec. School.

The second position winners were Shijang from Cherry Blossom School, Pangmong from Grace Hr. Sec. School, Robert from Holy Family School, Prewe Kronu from Mt. Sinai Hr. Sec. School.

The third position was bagged by Bendangkokba from Fernwood School, Meyikumla Imsong from Mt. Hermon Hr. Sec. School, Riya from Ministers’ Hill Baptist Hr. Sec. School, Lengu-ü from Dainty Buds School.

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Physic, Kohima Science College, Jotsoa gave a brief sketch of the life of C.V. Raman. Dr. K. Ruckmani, Director, Centre for Excellence in Nanobio Translational Research (Centre), Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceeutical Technology, Anna University delivered lecture on Nanotechnology.

Welcome address was delivered by Dr Zavie Hiese, Senior Scientific Officer, Directorate of Science & Technology, Nagaland who also chaired the programme. Special number was presented by LFHSS, Kohima. The prizes to the winners were given away by Chief Guest. Vote of thanks was proposed by District Education Officer, Kohima, Senthang. Students from various schools located in Kohima took part in the daylong celebration of National Science Day.
