National Seminar on English literature commences

Kohima, July 27 (MExN): A three day UGC Sponsored National Seminar on ‘Contemporary Commonwealth Literature in English: concepts, Techniques and Trends’ began today at Mount Olive College Kohima (MOCK). Representatives from Nagaland University, Manipur, Itanagar, Assam, Goa, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Chhattisgarh are taking part in the three days event.
APC & Principal secretary Agriculture, H.K Khulu IAS who graced the inaugural function as the chief guest in his brief note address acknowledged MOCK for organizing the programme and expressed hope that the seminar will benefit the society at large.
Associate Professor, Department of English, NU, Dr. A.J. Sebastian SDB in his key note address said since 1940s there was a tremendous growth in asserting a sense of regional identity which led to an increase in the production of national literature in English, thereby a commonwealth writer is the writer of his/her region with a distinct voice in comparison with the writers of other region and yet he/she belongs to the tradition of English literature. He said the National seminar has brought together scholars from all over the country presenting their scholarly papers on a variety of topics such as contesting ‘newness’ in Commonwealth Literature. The assistant professor had drawn from the literary scenario of Nagaland with a selection of poets and fictionist writing in English, attempting to present their concerns especially giving insights into social maladies.
The programme was chaired by K.N. Chishi, Secretary, Law & Justice, Chairman, Governing Body, MOCK, while Botoholi K.Achumi, Chaplin MOCK pronounced invocation. MOCK Principal Dr. Narendra Tiwary delivered welcome address and special number was presented by students of MOCK. K.N Chishi, Chairman, G.B MOCK released Souvenir on Contemporary Commonwealth literature in English: Concepts, Techniques and Trends. The seminar was sponsored by University Grants Commission (UGC) of India, organized by Department of English, Mount Olive College.
