National seminar on historical development in NE in India underway

  Kohima, November 16 (MExN): The inaugural session of a two-day national seminar on ‘Historical Development in North-East India: Trends and Perspectives’ was held at Don Bosco College Kohima on November 16.   The seminar is organised by History department of DBCK and it is sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi. Professor D. Gnanadurai, Vice Chancellor, St. Joseph University graced the occasion as Special invitee and Prof. Venuh, senior faculty of Nagaland University was the key note speaker. Dr. Lanukumla Ao coordinator of the Seminar chaired the session and the Principal welcomed the delegates. Fr. James TP invoked God blessings through a prayer.   The special invitee in his speech said that imparting education in social science must be limited to class rooms. He further added that, 50% of input must be given in the class and 50% knowledge must be given through field visits, activities and projects. What they learn through activities and field visits will have a lasting impression on them. He added that the research scholars must focus on real experience than on copy paste. “The real experience obtained is the essence of research and it must be shared with outside world by publishing it.”He insisted the UG students to take up small projects of documenting their culture and publishing it. He also made known the four skill enhancement courses available in UGC.   Prof Venuh, in his key note address, said that the north east historian have neglected North East History. He lamented that the colonial historian wrote history in their understanding but they missed out what we are. He urged the scholars to rewrite the history of north east India. He further emphasized the scholars not to neglect the traditional values imbedded in the cultural ethos of north east. The vote of thanks was delivered by Vehutalu Vero.
