Participants of National Sports Day at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus on August 29.
Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The Nagaland University Kohima Campus (NUKC), Meriema celebrated National Sports Day at the university playground on August 29 last.
During the inaugural program, Prof. N. Venuh Pro Vice Chancellor of NUKC emphasized on the importance of sportsand sportsmanship which helps in fostering a sense of community, discipline and healthy life.
The program chaired by Mesanguto Meru, Assistant Director of Sports, NU saw the active participation from faculty, staff, scholars and students of the campus, including a special number by Kikruvinuo and Tiakumla of the History and Archaeology department.
Phuyeka, Games and Sports secretary of NUSU led the oath taking and the Pro Vice Chancellor kicked off the ball for the day’s event. To mark the event, volleyball matches between teaching and non-teaching staffs was played .
A significant event at this year’s celebration was the launch of the Associate Dean Students’ Welfare (ADSW) Cup, an initiative of the Associate Dean of Students’ Welfare, NUKC in association with the Nagaland University Research Scholars’ Forum (NURSF) and the Nagaland University Students’ Union (NUSU) Sports Club. The initiative endeavours to foster friendship, unity and sportsmanship amongst the NUKC community. The theme for the 2025 edition is “Breaking Barriers”, with an objective of bridging socio-cultural and personal barriers in a culturally and academically diverse campus.
The first three matches of the Cup was played on the day with matches to be played over a period of two months culminating on 31st October
