
JALUKIE, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): The College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), marked National Women Farmers Day 2024 with a celebration held in Old Jalukie, Peren, under the theme “Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All.”
The event drew 25 participants, including five college officials and 20 women farmers from Old Jalukie Village.
Dr. Palanisammi A, Professor and Head of the Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, and Dean in-charge, led the program, emphasizing the vital contributions of women farmers to agriculture and allied sectors.
During the celebration, Gwangsuilung, a progressive farmer from Old Jalukie Sector B, received a token of appreciation for her outstanding performance in the “HQPM Technology Distribution Programme.” She shared her experiences and discussed the challenges faced in the farming sector.
An interactive session followed, where Dr. Uttarani Maibam, Programme Chairman, encouraged women farmers to adopt small-scale family farming to enhance their income. He also highlighted the significant role women play in animal husbandry.
Additionally, Dr. Neithono Kuotsu, Assistant Professor of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Malsawmkima, Assistant Professor and in-charge of the Veterinary Animal Nutrition Department, provided insights into common poultry diseases and their management, as well as care and management of piglets.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Malsawmkima.
