National workshop on material characterization and techniques

DIMAPUR, APRIL 25 (MExN): The Department of Physics, St. Joseph University, in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology, organized a ‘Material Characterization and Techniques’ workshop on April 20 & 21. The objective of the workshop was to provide a conceptual overview of major analytical techniques for material characterization, with demonstrations of selected techniques. The workshop was attended by 70 participants.

The inaugural function was graced by the Dr. D. Gnanadurai, Vice-Chancellor as chief guest, who shared a deep insight into the role of characterization techniques in his address. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. K. Sethupathy, Registrar.

This was followed by a technical program where talks were given by invited speakers with expertise in material characterization. The first talk was a lecture by Dr. Paul Ravindran, Chief Medical Physicist, CIHSR, on Instrumentation in Radiation Dosimetry.

The second session was a lecture by Dr. Jyoti Prasad Borah, Associate Professor at NIT, on Magnetic Nanoparticles for biomedical applications. The second day of the workshop was held at NIT. The morning session started with a talk by Dr. Jhimli Bhattacharyya, Associate Professor of Chemistry at NIT, on the Biophysical Characterization of Protein-Ligand Interaction.

The last session was a demonstration of instruments, followed by a valedictory program. Dr. Amit Puzari gave the valedictory address of the day, discussing the importance of materials characterization and techniques in the current world. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Arul Valan, NIT Nagaland, who thanked all the participants for their valuable contributions and inspiring talks and also thanked the organizing committee for their efforts.
