NBC conducts voluntary road levelling exercise

Dimapur | July 29

It is not uncommon to see citizens here undertaking voluntary initiatives to repair roads. Years of neglect and apathy on the part of successive governments over the decades have been the primary factor that has compelled citizens to take such initiatives albeit as temporary measure.

The Notun Basti Council (NBC), Dimapur on July 29 conducted a social work at the locality that included levelling roads and patching potholes. The community drive was the result of the locality’s residents and well wishers pitching in with monetary donations.

The NBC maintained that the conditions of the roads in the locality have not seen any improvement despite frequent appeals and reminders to the government and the MLA in concern. Lack of drainage and potholes have given way to water-logging which further compounds the problem.

The roads in the locality were last metalled some 30 years ago with even the stone gravel that once supported the asphalt lost. NBC chairman, E. Jon Ezung said that the day’s initiative found support in the form of the DMC lending an excavator and a road roller.
