DIMAPUR, JANUARY 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has reportedly written to the various political parties in the State and also to the Naga national groups and the local media on the clean election campaign undertaken by the Church. NBCC General Secretary Rev Dr L. Anjo Keikung has called for partnership with different organizations. While saying that we may not get 100% success in the forthcoming election, the Church leader expressed the hope that in the future Nagas will overcome.
“In order to lead our people to the right path, we can jointly fight the evils and work towards a positive change”, stated Rev Anjo in a letter addressed to the local media. He called on the media to project the Clean Election Campaign for a positive change while expressing his belief that such an approach with positive intent will impact the lives of many for the better.
Pointing out that the practice of election in Nagaland has become a mockery which is harming the land beyond our comprehension, the NBCC General Secretary stated that “if this trend continues, our people and land will be destroyed beyond repair”. “Further, we as Christians who profess to be truthful and loving are making the name of Christ a stumbling block for our neighbors and the world. Such actions will only ruin ourselves”, he stated.
The NBCC has therefore appealed to “all sections of the people to introspect on our actions and amend before it is too late”. Making it clear that the NBCC had no vested interest or any political agenda, Rev Anjo pointed out that the voice of the NBCC was “derived from the Biblical truth and conscience of the people”.
In this regard, the NBCC has spelled out clearly the guidelines for different sections of people. Separate Clean Election Guidelines have been prepared for the general public, for Church workers & Christian Ministers, for political parties and candidates, for Naga national workers and also for the Naga youth. A separate “thought for the security personnel on State election” has also been prepared by the NBCC.
It may be mentioned that the NBCC had also brought out a booklet called on Clean Election Campaign under the theme “Engaging the powers: Elections—A Spiritual Issue for Christians”. The NBCC has defined each person’s vote as one’s ‘birthright’. Similarly, a Clean Election Pledge Card has also been prepared for signature campaign.
Meanwhile NBCC General Secretary informed the Morung Express that as part of the Clean Election Campaign, teams have been formed to go on an extensive tour across Nagaland ahead of the Assembly Election slated for February 23.
