NBCC, ZPO & CNTC condemn student’s death

Dimapur, January 4: Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has expressed deep anguish over the sad demise of Akivito A. Sumi, son of Aheto Sumi, Principal, CHSS, Dimapur last Monday, the victim of a brutal assault on December 28, 2013. In a press statement, NBCC general secretary Anjo Keikung prayed that the Almighty God receives the victim in His mercy, and keeps his family and beloved ones in His Love, granting them courage and patience in their grieving.  “We, including all the Baptist Associations, churches and staff of the Council, cannot but condemn this inhumane act and manifest our feelings of solidarity with the family of the victim,” the note stated. “Such barbaric act leading to the taking of a young life is morally and ethically unacceptable and against God himself.”

Expressing pain to witness the cycle of violence in Nagaland increasing, the Council called upon the law enforcing authorities to immediately bring to book the perpetrators of such heinous crimes and execute justice without delay.  It also called upon one and all to “love, cherish and protect the sanctity of life and promote the exercise of true freedom and justice in our land.”

Meanwhile, strongly condemning the same incident on December 28, Zeliang People Organization (ZPO) Dimapur has called all right thinking citizens, irrespective of caste and colour to come together and stand up for justice and fight “this anti-social element” prevailing in “our” land.  ZPO in a press release appended by its president and secretary, publicity and information also requested the administrative authorities to take up the matter seriously and book the culprits at the earliest before the situation goes out of hand. The organization also expressed deep pain and sympathy to the bereaved parents and family.

Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) has also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of late Akivito. The CNTC in a press statement condemned the accused involved in the above said incident, while expressing shock to learn that “the murder was alleged to have been committed by a Naga in connivance with a non-local.” The Council has urged upon the authority to award befitting punishment to the accused involved in the case. “CNTC shall not be a silent spectator and shall continue to keep track with the investigation and trial of the case,” the note stated.

The Rongmei Students' Union Dimapur (RSUD) has vehemently condemned the assault and subsequent death of Akivito Sumi. A press note from the RSUD General Secretary and Secretary of Education and Statistics urged the authority concerned to expedite the matter with due urgency and to book all culprits involved in the crime. “Calling for befitting punishment with non bailable warrants for the culprits,” The RSUD expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
