NBSE candidates faring well at JEE and NEET

Attributed to common core syllabus for science stream

Kohima, February 7 (DIPR): Students who passed out their HSSLC Examination under the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) secured 253 seats out of the total 282 seats allotted for the State quota based on the All India Joint Entrance Examination (Main) and NEET Examinations 2013, for undergoing various technical, MBBS and allied courses. This examination is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

This was highlighted in a recent study, undertaken by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Nagaland, of the students who appeared and were nominated for the State quota based on the JEE (Main) and NEET Examination 2013. The State had opted for the All India JEE (Main) and NEET Examinations with effect from 2013 for selection of students of Nagaland for undergoing various technical, MBBS and allied courses under the State quota and selection is done based on the students’ performance in order of merit.

This achievement may be attributed to the fact that the NBSE follows the Common Core Syllabus for Science Stream which was introduced in 2011. Not only this, the teaching learning process in the schools under NBSE can be said to have contributed significantly to this success, the study noted. All the Boards/Councils across the country are expected to follow this Common Core Syllabus.

A comparative statement of seats secured by students of different Boards made available by the DTE showed that of the 46 seats for MBBS, 40 seats were secured by students who passed Class 12 from NBSE and the remaining 6 seats by students from other Boards. For Civil Engineering course, 39 of the 41 seats and 28 of the 30 seats for Mechanical Engineering were secured by students from NBSE. For Courses such as Agriculture Engineering & Technology; Bio Technology, Electrical & Electronics, Diploma Pharmacy, B. Pharm and some others, all the seats were secured by students from NBSE. The DTE also carried out a verification exercise with the help of NBSE to check under which institution these students have passed out the higher secondary.

Director, Technical Education, A. Kathipri has also informed that intending candidates of JEE and All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) Examinations 2014 may download necessary information and previous years question paper from the CBSE website: http://www.cbse.nic.in.
The DTE further informed that the date of Examination of JEE (Main) is 6th April 2014 and AIPMT 2014 is 4th May 2014.
