NBSE notify schools to avoid usage of single-use plastic

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified all heads of registered educational institutions that as per the directive of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India, all schools have been informed to avoid the usage of single-use plastic, both within and outside the school premises.

A DIPR report stated that single-use plastic is a form of plastic that is disposable, which is only used once and then has to be thrown away. The single-use plastic items include plastic bags, water bottles, soda bottles, straws, plastic plates, cups, etc. Single-use plastic after usage is mostly dumped on land-fill sites; it chokes the water supply and drainage system and damages the environment due to its non-biodegradability.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s call and the nation-wide campaign launched on October 2, 2019 to make India free from single-use plastic, NBSE has directed all institutions to inform and educate the students about the drastic impacts on the environment as well as aquatic life due to single-use plastic and to adopt measures to avoid its usage.
