
Dimapur, Zunheboto qualify from Group A
DIMAPUR, APRIL 13 (MExN): Dimapur and Zunheboto both won their respective matches on day 3 of the ongoing U-23 NCA cricket tournament on April 13. In the first match with Mon, Zunheboto won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 151 runs while losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Mon managed to score just 133 runs while losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.
In the second match, Dimapur won the toss and elected to bat against Peren.
Opener Sedezhalie scored yet another half century as he led Dimapur to 163/7 in a match reduced to 23 overs due to rain.
Sedezhalie (66) and Puchu (16) opening the innings put on a half century partnership before the latter fell in the 9th over caught at point after skying a shot.
Sedezhalie however kept the scoreboard ticking even as wickets fell regularly. He was also lucky to have been dropped at deep in the 12th over and eventually fell in the 17th over. His inning of 66 runs consisted of two 6s and five 4s.
Leg spinner Om Sangma was the pick of the Peren bowlers grabbing four wickets – his prized wicket being Tahmeed Rahman who was clean bowled for a golden duck in the 13th over.
Mannarayan scored a quickfire 35 towards the end of the innings to push Dimapur beyond the 150 mark. In the run chase, Peren were skittled out for 73 in just 11.5 overs. Tahmeed and Akavi were the prime tormentors as the two returned with 3 wickets apiece enabling Dimapur to record their third consecutive win.
Both Dimapur and Zunheboto have won all three of their matches in the tournament. They have both qualified from Group A.
On Saturday, Wokha will take on Mokokchung while Kohima plays Tuensang.
