
DIMAPUR, JUNE 8 (MExN): On Day-4 of the ongoing NCA 2nd edition of the Women’s Champions Trophy, Puliebadze Slingers defeated Pauna Queens by 1 wicket in a thrilling super over encounter after the match ended in a tie.
After Puliebadze Slingers won the toss they sent in Pauna Queens to bat first and things pretty much worked out in their favour as they restricted the Queens to a total of only 59 runs losing all wickets in 20.4 overs.
Priyanka and Mukti let the charge for the Slingers with 3 wickets each while Meriyani Kikon picked up two wickets. Anupriya was the only batswoman who could manage a double digit score of 11 runs for the Pauna Queens.
Chasing just 60 run for the win, Puliebadze Slingers got off to a confident start with their opener Illuneule scoring 24 runs. However, bowler trio Elina Muru, Merensola and Sangtinaro scalping 3 wickets each made for an exciting fight-back and flipped the match around. The Puliebadze Slingers were all out in 17.1 overs with 59 runs on the board thereby resulting in a tie.
In the super over, the first in the Women’s Champions Trophy, Puliebadze Slingers edged out Pauna Queens by 1 wicket to get crucial numbers on the points table. Player of the match was awarded to Priyanka for scoring 11 runs and taking 3 wickets.
In the second match between Terogvu Titans and Saramati Warriors, Terogvu Titans having won the toss elected to bat first and set a target of 90 runs losing 2 wickets in 25 overs. Iduabeule and Limatula emerged as the top scorers with 26 and 28 runs each. Sariba led her disciplined bowling attack with 2 wickets and in 5 over conceded only 9 runs.
In the run chase, it was Jyoti once again with 32 runs who gave Saramati Warriors the dream start and with a brilliant knock of 31 runs coming from Sariba, the Warriors marched to another comfortable win and continue to dominate the top of the table. Player of the match was adjudged to Sariba for scoring 31 runs and claiming 2 wickets.
On the 3rd match played at Sovima Cricket Ground between Japfü Dazzlers and Tiyi Strikers, the latter after winning the toss opted to bat first and in their stipulated 25 overs managed to put up only 44 runs on the board losing 8 wickets.
Sentilemla was the top scorer with 12 runs and with her departure the batting line-up of the Strikers collapsed. Bipila and Najmeen scalped 2 wickets each while Talirenla, Alamlie and Alemienla took 1 wicket each for the Dazzlers.
In reply, the opening batting duo of Japfü Dazzlers Najmeen 24 runs and Alemienla 12 runs remained not out to steer their team to a comfortable win without any loss in 9.1 overs. Najmeen was adjudged the player of the match for her 24 runs knock and 2 wickets haul.
