Commends CP’s traffic steps and DMC’s clearing drive
Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): With Dimapur grappling with persistent traffic snarls and bottlenecks in the heart of the town, the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has urged the district administration to implement long-term measures to ease the city’s mounting traffic woes.
The NCD noted that schools located in congested areas should ensure that student drop-off and pick-up are carried out within their respective campuses to prevent roadside congestion during peak hours.
It also stressed that all new commercial constructions under the municipal jurisdiction must provide mandatory parking space, adding that lack of such provisions continues to worsen traffic flow in the city centre.
The NCD also expressed concern over the underutilisation of the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and noted that the very purpose of the infrastructure, which is to ease traffic in Dimapur, has been defeated.
Despite the facility being fully operational, night and day passenger buses continue to operate from Golaghat Road and the Supermarket area during evening peak hours, it pointed out.
To this end, the Council demanded urgent correction of “such lacunae” in traffic monitoring and management, urging the authorities to treat the matter with priority.
Reiterating its stand on public safety, the NCD once again emphasised ‘zero tolerance’ towards any form of extortion or illegal taxation against bona fide citizens in Dimapur.
Meanwhile, the NCD has lauded the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, for issuing a timely traffic advisory to ensure smoother movement during the festive season.
It also appreciated the Dimapur Municipal Council, led by its Chairman, for creating additional parking zones by dismantling illegal makeshift stalls beneath the flyover and in surrounding areas.
