NCD calls for immediate action from CM on roads and bridges

Dimapur, July 24 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has called for the Chief Minister’s immediate attention, intervention and subsequent action into the condition of roads and bridges in Dimapur and adjoining areas.

“Dimapur, being the gateway to both Nagaland and Manipur, is the most vital and strategic city in Nagaland. Dimapur has become a shocking entry point of the state, with no visible and commendable infrastructure in place. Whatever little infrastructure was visible has now also become beyond use,” stated the NCD’s Vice President (Admn), K Ghokheto Chophy, in a representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland State.

The roads that need “immediate intervention and subsequent action” are the road from 5th Mile, via Rangapahar Crossing Bar, to Thahekhu Village Gate and Highway 29 road from Chumukedima Town till Dimapur, including all areas in Dimapur Town. The bridges that have either collapsed or are in unusable condition are the Full Nagarjan Bridge, Old Dhansiri Bridge and the Chathe River Bridge at 4th Mile (Referral Hospital).

With the above mentioned roads and bridges in a “state of utter disuse and neglect,” the NCD stressed that “it has become the need of the hour to take up restoration/reconstruction works immediately.”

Collapsing bridges and crumbling roads in Dimapur have “affected hundreds of villages, thousands of students and lakhs of citizens on a daily basis,” the NCD noted, and that the “affected citizens are made to face these untold and indescribable difficulties with no respite in sight, due to the utter nonchalant attitude of the powers that be.”

The Council has now warned that it will “leave no stone unturned” in terms of “mass-based protests and actions” till the above mentioned works are taken up on a “war-footing” and to make sure that the projects are “completed satisfactorily.”
