NCD incumbents unconstitutionally holding office: DTAH

Dimapur, July 4 (MExN): The Dimapur Tribal Apex Hoho (DTAH) on Saturday accused the incumbent team of office bearers of the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) of “unconstitutionally” holding on to office even after lapsing of tenure.

In a press release, the DTAH, which claims to consist of 14 tribal Hoho presidents, denounced the NCD statement, which was published in the local dailies on July 3, warning members from attending a meeting called by the DTAH.

In the release, the DTAH alleged that the incumbent NCD team had on “their own whims and fancies” extended their tenure for 3 months on February 11, 2020, without consulting its constituent tribal Hohos. According to the DTAH, at the time, the tenure was scheduled to end on March 6, 2020.

It said that consequent to the “unconstitutional” extension of tenure, Presidents of all the constituent tribal Hohos submitted a representation calling for revoking the extension. Following this, the NCD had accepted their “purported omission of Constitutional mandate” during a joint meeting on March 10 and “apologized” before the DTAH, it said.

During the same meeting, it said that a resolution was also passed to extend the tenure to March 31, after which a new NCD team was to be formed. However, it held that in spite of their tenure lapsing, the incumbent NCD team is “unconstitutionally” continuing to hold office in violation of the laid down NCD constitution.
