DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 17 (MExN): The Naga Council, Dimapur (NCD) has questioned the delay on the construction works of the old Dhansiri Bridge, which it claimed has come to a grinding halt and has demanded resumption of works and its completion before the Christmas season.
A press release issued by NCD on Wednesday said befitting penalty should be given to the concerned parties involved for the delay as it is clearly mentioned in the contract agreement that all works must be completed within 24 month from the date of issue of the order otherwise penalty would be charged as per rules of the contract agreement.
The NCD stated that as per the work order vide Approval No. CE/R&B/CORR/UD 2008-09/08 dated 16/02/2010, an amount of Rupees 9,25,8100 was granted for the construction of RCCT-Beam Bridge over the Dhansiri River to one M/s Aien Meren Enterprises, Cl-1 360 NPW, Dimapur Nagaland.
It pointed out that all legal tangles and pending issues of handing over the construction works to the Urban Development has been completed and obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) has been cleared.
Now with the Nagarjan Bridge almost on the verge of collapse and the old fly over near Hotel Senti also in a precarious state, the NCD has demanded immediate resumption of the halted works.
The NCD also wanted to know why the Department of Urban Development and the aforementioned firm dismantled the bridge in the first place when it was serving as a relief from the chronic traffic snarls if it cannot take up the task of completing it.
It reminded that Dimapur town has been facing severe traffic congestion even on normal occasions, and with the onset of the festive season, more traffic problems was in the offing.
While urging the concerned department to immediately set to task in completing the old Dhansiri Bridge, the NCD has cautioned that the people of Dimapur would have no other options but to come out in the street and agitate if its demand is not met.
