NCD writes to CM on by-pass road from Amar Mill to Dhansiri Bridge Dimapur

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) today has written to the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio on proposed  construction of the 2-lane by-pass road on National Highway-29 from Amar Flour Mill point near the inter- state Check Gate  to Burma Camp Dhansiri bridge, Dimapur.

If the proposed 2.7-kilometer bypass road becomes a reality, it would ease the unbearable traffic jam in Dimapur city, opined the NCD letter to the Chief Minister submitted via the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur.

The letter signed by the NCD President Etsungmomo Kikon and General Secretary LK Peter Anal further buttress its point by highlighting that the NH-29 connecting Numaligarh-Dimapur – Kohima-Imphal passes through the busiest road along Dimapur District Sports Complex Stadium (DDSC) and Railway Over Bridge (RoB) creating huge traffic congestion.

The congestion stretches till the NH-29 4-lane in Purna Bazar Dimapur and while district administration and the police department taken up a lot of measures to regulate for smooth flow of traffic, it is becoming unbearable, the Council noted.

It further pointed out that the police department conducted trial-run of vehicles from April 14-15 to assess the traffic scenario in view of the proposed upcoming rehabilitation works of old RoB.

During the exercise, it was noticed that the traffic jam was very severe and continued till 8-9 PM in the evening, it said, adding that the trial-run conducted was a good initiative to create public awareness.

To this end, the NCD contended that once the proposed by-pass road is completed, it would facilitate accessibility to all the buses entering into Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) located ahead of by-pass road.

As there are no options for expansion of road in the city coupled with the rapid increased of vehicles and population, the proposed construction of by-pass road is urgently needed for safety and well-being of the citizens, it added.

It is learnt that the State Government had already acquired and demarcated the land for construction of the said by-pass road, the Council informed.

The NCD is committed to serve the citizens of Dimapur and the present proposal is the dream and long aspirations of the Dimapurians, it added, further urging the Chief Minister to look into the matter at the earliest.
