To promote Naga music in the field of music education and industry, Naga Music Research Centre has been inaugurated in the campus of Nagaland College of Music & Fine Arts (NCMFA) on December 10.
Addressing the inaugural function, Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister Neiba Kronu emphasised on the need to do in-depth research on music and understanding more about the impact of music making and music education. In this, he assured all possible support from government side to explore and strengthen the research activities.
In this competitive world, we have to upgrade and update ourselves, he said. “Quality music is needed,” he said and encouraged the Naga musicians to strive for excellence at the various levels.
Kronu maintained that music is a language of emotion wherein it represents different feelings in times of happiness and sorrow. He said that music got no boundary, adding that it brings the people closer and enlarges the circle of friendship.
Kronu said the state government under the chief ministership of Neiphiu Rio is paying special attention towards promotion of music and arts by declaring music as an industry in Nagaland.
NCMFA, Managing Director, Vesato Theluo said that Nagas are music lovers. “We have rich culture and music,” he said adding, “Having the concern and the desire to preserve our rich and beautiful culture and music and to promote our Naga music in the field of music education and industry, NCMFA have come up with this concept to start this project called as Naga Music Research Centre.”
He said that NCMFA have a wider vision to make it big in future and “carry our culture and music to the next level of research for our younger generations to experience and be rooted in our original culture and music.”
Stating that with the generous help of Rural Development department, he said it could complete this project thus far, he said “we still need to do a lot more in the future so it is our genuine request to our government to help achieve this noble project for our Nagas as a whole traditional community.”
Advisor, Higher Education and Election, Medo Yhokha was also present at the inaugural function.
