Dimapur | June 11 : The NCP Nagaland unit has said that forging of a national political alternative of all secular, progressive and democratic forces against the Congress and BJP, is the declared national political line of the party.
Addressing party workers on the occasion of 13th Foundation day of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at the state party office in Dimapur on Friday, NCP Nagaland president Neiba Ndang said that even after 63 years of India’s independence, 40% of the country’s population still live below poverty line. “The reason for this pitiable condition is the wrong policies followed by the Congress who had been ruling the country for quite a long period and the BJP that followed them in government,” the state NCP president said.
Neiba said that in order to solve the problems of common man and to provide a bright future to the entire population, the emergence of national political alternative has become a necessity, and added that the one of NCP’s political objective is to forge such an alternative. “We are following that political line in all the states including Kerala,” he said.
Neiba said that the political alternative can become a reality only if the party can bring all secular, progressive and democratic parties including the Left forces on a common platform. “The alternative should be able to instill confidence in the mind of the people. The forces opposed to the emergence of the national political alternative will be at the bottom of the recent calculated move against the NCP,” he added.
The state NCP president also reminded that NCP is a “national party with a regional mindset” and that the “grassroots” are the party’s top priority and the voice of the people the party’s “command.”
Coming to Nagaland, Neiba said that elections have always been tussles between regional and national parties. “It is an opportunity for the Nagas to have an option of choosing from a third party and I strongly believe that NCP is that option which will be like new wine in a new bottle rather than old wine in a new bottle,” he said.
Stating that Nagas need change both in the socio-economic and political fronts, Neiba also said that it is high time for Nagas to rope in the younger generations into politics so that they can get themselves acquainted in order to become leaders of tomorrow. State vice president, N Hotongse Sangtam, general secretaries Asie Yalie and Alemla Jamir, Peren division president Hangau, Dimapur division president Kevi Angami, also exhorted party workers.
State NCP general secretary Miathou Krose chaired the Foundation day programme and general secretary N Newmai proposed vote of thanks.
