Against the backdrop of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader PA Sangma’s reported move to float a new political party following his defeat in the Presidential race, the Nagaland State NCP has affirmed that the party remains intact in the State.
“Let me make it clear that the NCP party in Nagaland is intact and there is no question of shifting our loyalty. I don’t think other North Eastern states will also be affected except some few NCP leaders from Meghalaya”, said Secretary General NCP (North East) and Nagaland State NCP President, Neiba Ndang, on Sunday.
Talking to a section of media here at his private residence on Sunday afternoon, the NCP leader who is a close friend of Sangma said that the latter’s exit from NCP has not in any way affected the party in Nagaland.
“As political leaders, we cannot change our colours too often and on the other hand, our party is growing from strength to strength and we are fully confident of making a major dent in the next assembly election”, the NCP leader said.
It may be mentioned former NCP General Secretary and former Lok Sabha Speaker, PA Sangma, had last week announced that he will be floating a new political party called National Indigenous People’s Party (NIIP) following his defeat in the presidential race against former Union Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Ndang also congratulated Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Praful Patel, for taking over as in-charge of NCP North East following Sangma’s resignation. The State NCP chief said that under Patel and national NCP President, Sharad Pawar, the NCP in North East and particularly in Nagaland, would receive a much needed boost.
Meanwhile, Ndang also welcomed senior NPF member Thuputhi Nienu from 19th Phek assembly seat who recently resigned from the regional party along with other NPF office bearers and members and joined the NCP. The State NCP chief said that Nienu and his supporters joining NCP would boost the state NCP.
