NCP sees self as “alternate” to NPF, Congress parties

Dimapur, November 12 (MExN):  Leader of opposition, Meghalaya state assembly, and youth NCP leader, Conrad Sangma, today expressed conviction that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will be the “alternative” to the NPF and Congress parties in Nagaland.
“As political parties, both NPF and Congress have not been able to fulfill people’s expectations, and the people in Nagaland are looking forward to the NCP as an alternative party,” Conrad said in a press briefing held at NCP office, Dimapur.
Conrad, the second son of NCP pioneer and former Lok Sabha Speaker, PA Sangma, also said that the party has already started the process of reinvigorating and organizing the Nagaland state NCP at different levels to face the next assembly elections.
“We are going to work very hard and NCP will give special emphasis to the youths, not only in the electoral aspects but also the organizational side too,” he said.
On the recent pull-out of Nagaland state NCP from the DAN coalition, the NCP youth leader iterated that the NCP central leaders were aware and fully endorsed the decision taken by the Nagaland NCP.
Conrad said the decision to withdraw from the DAN coalition was not an “easy one” but that the party was compelled to pull out from the DAN coalition as the major DAN party, the NPF, had never taken into confidence its coalition partners while formulating major policies or decisions.
Alleging that the NPF-led DAN government had not maintained the coalition spirit, the Meghalaya opposition leader who was accompanied by the Meghalaya state NCP president, Prof. WR Kharlukhi, indicated that in a “coalition era” sidelining of political allies would not bode well for the NPF party.
Earlier, Nagaland state NCP president Neiba Ndang and other state NCP officials greeted Conrad and Kharlukhi and brief the duo about the latest political development in the state.
Meanwhile, both Conrad and state NCP officials informed that the state NCP has already geared itself to face the upcoming assembly elections. State NCP sources also disclosed that the party president Neiba Ndang along with his colleagues will embark on a state wide-tour, starting with Peren district.
