Former Nagaland Assembly Speaker, Neiba Ndang, who was recently appointed as secretary general of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Northeast, today said his first priority is to strengthen and revitalise the NCP in the entire Northeast Region. “First of all, my target is to strengthen and revamp the party in the entire Northeast,” Ndang told mediapersons on the sidelines of a felicitation programme organised by the State NCP unit in his honour here at his private residence.

“We have already sown the seeds of our party in the northeastern states… Just like a family the party will take some time to grow and prosper,” the NCP leader said. Presently, the party has 14 legislators in the Meghalaya Assembly, five in Manipur, two in Nagaland, and a lone legislator in Assam. He said the Party will further consolidate its presence in Nagaland and cover the remaining three districts in Nagaland (Kiphire, Zunheboto and Dimapur), which are yet to have NCP unit offices.

Queried whether the Party can become popular in the Northeast, Ndang said the NCP with its motto ‘Development, progress and peace’ is an ideal party for the Northeast people. Elaborating further, he said, “Unless there is development, there cannot be progress. We want to see that the Northeastern state progress day by day, year by year. People can live in peace provided there is development and progress.” On the Naga issue, Ndang said, “We are in support of solution. Our prayer is for an early and permanent solution acceptable to all sections of society.”

Ndang, who returned from Shillong after attending the felicitation programme for the Union Minister of State for rural development, Agatha Sangma, thanked NCP national president Sharad Pawar, general secretary P A Sangma, and NCP Northeast president R Koijam for reposing confidence in him and appointing him as secretary general of NCP Northeast. Party leaders including State NCP general secretary, Azio Kithan, treasurer Hotongse Sangtam, NCP Peren district president, Haisui Riame, Miathou Krose, and the NCP mahila representative also spoke on the occasion.
