NCSU backs govt on road take over

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): Terming as wise and bold decision, the Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union (NCSU) today strongly backed the take over of National Highway-155 by the State PWD and even suggested that the rest of the National Highways within Nagaland which are looked by the Border roads Organisation should be taken over by the state government.

A press release received here from the NCSU President, Pele Khezhie and General Secretary, Moa Emchen which strongly supported the state government is sure to create displeasure to the individuals and organisations resenting the state take over of NH-155, though the NCSU’s support might be music to the state government’s ears.

The NCSU asserted that the state Department of Works and Housing has made a wise and bold decision in the takeover of NH-155.

“In present context, the Naga Contractor’s and Engineer’s etc are equally qualified in term of technicality, workmanship, financially etc, as compared with the contractors of other part of the country and BRO as well,” the NCSU affirmed.

The NCSU held that when Nagas are encountering the consequences of unemployment problem, the takeover is an opportunity for many educated unemployed youths to get employment, and also improve the economic condition of the people.

The NCSU also appreciated the state government for realizing the need to take over the National Highway into the government’s fold, since in other states like Assam and Manipur, all the national Highways that stretch across the respective state comes under the state government undertakings.

The NCSU also strongly asserted that the National Highway-61, which is under the state government care, is the most prominent one and that rapid improvement is seen which is initiated by the Nagaland PWD.

“The rest of the NH’s within the Nagaland state look after by the BRO should be takeover by the Government of Nagaland,” the NCSU said.

The NCSU also appealed the agitating party for humane solution to the issue regarding the takeover of the NH-155 by the PWD from the BRO which was finalized on August 30 last.

“NCSU appeal to all individuals and frontal organisation of the agitating bodies to put head together to sort-out humane solution regarding the takeover of NH-155 so as to benefit the general people of Nagas,” the NCSU said.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Government Registered Class-1 Contractors’ Union also supported state government’s decision to take over the NH-155 from the BRO.

The NGRC-1CU President, KC Angami and General Secretary L Pukhato Shohe, in a press release, supported a press release issued by the Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B), on which the Nagaland state government defended itself the takeover of NH-155 from the BRO “as views by various tribal bodies stating that there was no room for doubt about the workmanship of the state PWD (R&B)”.
