Phek, July 1 (MExN): The National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC) Phek district observed anti-malaria month by carrying out various activities in hard to reach and endemic areas during the month of June under the theme ‘Time to deliver zero malaria-invest, innovate, implement.’
Khrusayi Khamo, District VBD Consultant, stated that anti-malaria month was conducted in 10 selected villages with low Annual Blood Slide Examination Rate (ABER). Activities included malaria awareness, proper usage of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (ILLN), malaria screening, distribution of First Aid medicines and mosquito coils.
Free health camp was also conducted at Porba and Sakraba village treated by Dr Shevo Hiese, District Vector Borne Officer. It added that house to house visit for checking on usage of LLIN was carried out by Malaria Technical Supervisor and citizens were encouraged to regularly use LLIN throughout the year.
NHM Phek in a press release stated that as the state is advancing towards malaria elimination, the general public are requested to get blood tested done on the day of fever, keeping the surrounding clean through cleanliness drive once a month, reducing mosquito breeding sites by filling the potholes, draining unwanted stagnant water and to regularly use LLIN.
