Kohima, June 9 (MExN): A team from National Commission for Women, led by its Chairperson, Rekha Sharma, along with Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) Chairperson, Dr. Temsula Ao, and Members met the Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya today.
This was informed in a press note from the Nagaland State Resource Centre for Women.
During the meeting with the Governor, Sharma discussed the political rights and political empowerment of the women of Nagaland. She also shared her ideas on how local body elections can be more gender inclusive so as to enable women in Nagaland to contest elections as per the Constitution of India.
According to the press note, the Governor also suggested ideas to empower the women of Nagaland with the representatives of the NSCW, and extended his support to it.
The Governor and Sharma also deliberated on the Central Government's schemes for women and their implementation in Nagaland. Sharma said the NCW plans to hold a meeting in Nagaland soon with the North East states’ commissions for women through which new programmes will be developed to empower women of the region, stated the press note.
