NDO’s poverty reduction initiatives to aid SHGs

Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): As part of their program on micro-credit and sustainable livelihood, the Nagaland Development Outreach organised a training for 12 Self-Help Groups from Peren district from July 13 to 19. The training, facilitated by the Rural Resource Training Centre (RRTC), Umran, Meghalaya, is the first batch in the series of trainings to be conducted for SHG members at RRTC.

35 SHG members attended the program and were also awarded certificates on completion of the training. The training focused on upgrading the skills of the trainees in entrepreneurship, livestock management, food processing, and mushroom cultivation. The program has been exclusively designed to improve the social and economic status of the people in Nagaland. The poor should be provided appropriate skills training for agricultural productions, micro-enterprises and small business creation because poor Naga entrepreneurs have demonstrated that with a small amount of working capital they can build successful small business while feeding their children, stated the NDO.

The Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO) in Nagaland is dedicated to the development of disadvantaged groups, especially rural men and women. The organisation follows an integrated approach to address the challenges of poverty and underdevelopment. It aims to build self-reliance of disadvantaged groups by alleviating poverty through sustained income generation programs.

The sustainable livelihood for socio-economic empowerment program covers poor rural men and women through formation of SHGs, equips them in running small businesses and enterprises, and provides them with long-term RFL to take sustainable income-generating activities. The approach used in this program will build upon and strengthen the NDO’s poverty reduction initiatives.
