
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 20 (MExN): Two candidates, Wangpang Konyak of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Wanglem Konyak of the Indian National Congress (INC), have submitted their nomination papers on October 19 for the upcoming Tapi Bye Election.
The filing took place at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Mon, under the supervision of Rongsenmenla, Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), and Returning Officer, informed a report from the DIPR.
Further, the Home Department has issued a circular, stating that the day of poll, November 7, is declared as a paid holiday for all employees of government, banks, financial institutions, private business establishments, industrial undertakings or any other establishment including any person employed in any trade; in the said Constituency.
This will also apply to all the categories of employees, who are registered as electors in the said Constituency but employed in an industrial undertaking or an establishment located outside the said Constituency.
The above shall not, however, apply to any elector whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he or she is engaged.
Meanwhile the Chief Electoral Officer, Joint CEO and Assistant CEO, Nagaland held a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties in the state on October 20 in connection with Special Summary Revision of photo electoral rolls with regard to January 1, 2024 as qualifying date.
During the meeting, the CEO’s team highlighted the legal provisions of revision exercise and briefly explained the schedule of the ongoing special summary revision. The political parties were encouraged to appoint their Booth Level Agent (BLA) to assist the electoral machinery in bringing out an authentic and error-free photo electoral roll for smooth conduct of elections. The party representatives were provided with copies of relevant forms and the Election Commission’s instructions relevant to the revision process.
The CEO informed that with the announcement of the schedule for bye-election in 43-Tapi (ST) Assembly Constituency, the Model Code of Conduct became operational in entire Mon district. Political parties were informed that Committees at the State-level under the CEO as well as district-level under the District Election Officer/Returning Officer are in place to oversee the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
He called upon all political parties to extend co-operation in the successful conduct of the Special Summary Revision exercise and the bye-election.
INC announces campaigners
In another development, the Indian National Congress announced the list of leaders who will be campaigning for the bye election.
