The NDPP, Dimapur region as part of the party’s social service initiative donated motorcycles to the police and Power department. A motorcycle each was handed away today at a programme held at the Town Hall to the Traffic police and the SDO III, Dimapur Electrical Division.

The Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly Zhaleo Rio, who represents 5 Ghaspani II AC, speaking at the programme said that the gesture would hopefully serve as an eye opener for the other units of the party to emulate.

While claiming that the people are happy with the social service rendered by the party, he added that the NDPP as part of the government is there for the good of the public. While outlining the significance of the gesture, he appealed the public and the party workers in particular to be aware of the problems facing the Traffic police and the power department. This, he said, would enable better service. William Kath, DySP (Motor Transport), Dimapur Police, receiving the bike on behalf of the Traffic police said that the addition would greatly ease the strain on the existing fleet of 2-wheelers. The Dimapur Traffic police, divided into 2 zones, have only 10 motorcycles, he said. According to him, this is not sufficient considering the volume of traffic and the number VIP duties they have to respond to.

Describing 2-wheelers as a quicker mode of transport on congested roads, he expressed gratefulness to the NDPP for the initiative.

Akito Murru, SDO III, Dimapur Electrical Division, termed the donation as a considerate gesture and much welcomed considering the limited resources the department personnel have to work with.   He held that the Power department despite its intention to serve the public more often than not are always at the receiving end.

Calling for judicious consumption of electricity, he appealed the public to adopt energy efficient practices at home such as by using LED lighting and electrical equipments that consume the least possible power for maximum output.
