NDPP hails Meluri on becoming Nagaland's 17th District

Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has commended the people of Meluri and conveyed its goodwill as Nagaland’s newest district embarks on a new journey.

It further appreciated the decision of the Government of Nagaland, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his Cabinet, and fulfilling the long-cherished desire of the people of Meluri and the Pochury tribe in particular by creating the 17th district of Nagaland, Meluri.

The NDPP also acknowledged the magnanimity of the people of Phek district for their wholehearted support, which made the creation of the district possible, and expressed hope that this unity and fraternity will continue.

Meanwhile, , the party conveyed its gratitude to the Chairman and Members of the 16th Finance Commission of India for visiting Nagaland and holding extensive consultative meetings with the State Government, tribal bodies, civil society organisations, political parties, and the business community.

The Commission’s recommendations to the Government of India will be of paramount importance in shaping the country’s economy over the next five years, particularly for smaller, resource-strapped states like Nagaland, it said. 

The NDPP also exuded  expressed confidence that after considering the submissions made by various stakeholders, the Commission's recommendations will favour Nagaland's future growth and development. 

It also appreciated the constructive participation of Nagaland’s political parties, including the BJP, NPF, NCP, NPP, and INC, in discussions with the 16th Finance Commission.

This spirit of setting aside political differences to work for the common purpose of uplifting the people and the State marks a positive step towards progress in Nagaland, it opined. 

“We hope that such a positive attitude will continue in the future,” it added.

The NDPP further lauded the concerted efforts of the Government of Nagaland in managing the Commission's entire stay and facilitating the consultative meetings, including logistical arrangements. It also appreciated the participation of all organisations involved in these consultations.
