Pledges to refrain from commenting on ENPO-FNT issue in any election campaign activities

Mon, April 8 (MExN): Days after Konyak civil society organisations issued a summon letter to him for allegedly violating directives of the Konyak Union’s March 30 resolution, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) President, N Chingwang Konyak, today tendered his "sincerest apologies" to the union.

In an 'Apology Undertaking,' he apologised for his indiscretion in commenting on the Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO)-Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) issue during an election rally in Wokha on April 5, not related to his election campaign or rally.

“I understand the gravity of my mistake and assure that such actions will not recur in the future,” Chingwang, who is also the Chairman of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) of Nagaland, stated in the undertaking.

In accordance with the resolution and to uphold the integrity of the KU, he further pledged not to engage or comment on the ENPO-FNT issue in any further canvassing or election campaign activities in his individual capacity or as the NDPP President.

“Furthermore, I shall continue to contribute my best and work for the upliftment and progress of the Eastern Nagaland People and the Konyaks,” he added in the undertaking signed in the presence of Y Chingwang Wangsa, Vice President, KU; Ponglem Konyak, President, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong; T Noklem Konyak, President, Konyak Students’ Union; and Z Yato Konyak, Chairman, Sheong Village Council.

On April 6, the Konyak CSOs issued the summon letter to Chingwang, charging him of contravening the explicit “directives set forth by the Konyak Union on March 30 directing all its citizens not to engage in commentary remarks on the ENPO FNT matter.

It was issued following reported remarks by NDPP President during a PDA campaign for the Lok Sabha general election in Wokha that “non-participation in the election will not yield any positive outcome” and further appealing to the Eastern Nagaland “people to have a meeting with the State Government and chart out an amicable solution for the better upliftment of the region.”
