Blames NPF leadership of bringing DAN government down
Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has termed the Naga People’s Front (NPF) chief Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu a “fortune teller.”
Reacting to Dr Liezietsu’s comments at the NPF’s Dimapur office building inauguration on July 25, the NDPP issued a press statement today stating, “Dr Liezietsu, apart from being a former Chief Minister and the President of the NPF has also become a fortune teller wherein he has ‘predicted’ the down fall of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party.”
According to the statement, Dr Liezietsu accusing the NDPP of “greed and power mongering” came as no surprise while terming the former’s comments as “voicing his own morals and principles.”
It claimed that his tenure as CM was not only rife with “corruption, tribalism and greed” but also “nepotism” with Dr Liezietsu appointing his own son as “advisor to the Chief Minister.”
While accusing him of making a “fool of everyone,” the NDPP claimed that he clung to the CM’s chair despite having promised to hold it for only a few months and went on to contest the by-election to the 10 Northern Angami – II seat as opposed to Dr Liezietsu’s purported claim to have retired from active politics.
“Today this very same person is accusing the NDPP of being greedy and power mongers,” it maintained.
It went on to claim that it was the “greed of the NPF and its leadership that brought down the NPF led DAN government...”
It said that the NPF leadership instead of appreciating its elected representative “accused them of anti-party activities.”
The NDPP further charged Dr Liezietsu of being responsible for the Election Commission reportedly deregistering the party and freezing its symbol.
“In such a scenario, it is a wonder as to who is on the brink of downfall. The NDPP or the NPF?”
“Perhaps it is time for the NPF leadership to stop living in its past glory and instead wake up to the realities that threaten its very existence,” it stated.
It also took potshot at Rajya Sabha Member and NPF Secretary General KG Kenye’s for reportedly taking pride in the NPF having ruled Nagaland for 15 years. “Mr Kenye forgets the person who made it possible for the Cock party to come to power thrice consecutively.”
It further rubbished Kenye’s reported claim that the NPF have been “approached through the back door (with) the offer of power.”
As per the statement, “The NDPP is not a party that follows the policy of opportunism. The NDPP has and will always stand firm by our pre-poll alliance with the BJP.”
It further stated that the NDPP has decided not to react to the opposition criticizing the PDA government’s policies “as it believes in the importance of the role of an opposition in a democratic system of government.”
It though added that it will “not remain mute when none other than the president of the NPF makes absurd allegations and predictions.”
