Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): Meeting with good response from students and parents, the 9th Edufest, Eastern India’s Biggest Education Fair held at Dimapur at the Christian Higher Secondary School Auditorium, Church Road, which started from May 10, concluded today. Organised for the first time in Dimapur, the fair witnessed 48 of India’s top colleges attending to the queries and academic needs of students.
Targeting the students of Dimapur, officials of colleges from Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, New Delhi, Orissa, and West Bengal were present to meet students and interact about the various courses that they would offer. Institutions had set-up their stalls to showcase various courses and packages on offer to all visitors. Many of the stall offered on-the-spot career counseling, apart from distributing brochures and pamphlets. Courses on exhibit were hotel management, engineering, mass communication, dental, interior designing, architecture, management, fashion technology, paramedical courses, animation overseas education, nursing, aviation, overseas education and many more.
With HSSLC results out, students were seen excitedly participating at the exhibition.  Meanwhile interaction with students revealed that a lot of the students seemed satisfied with the fest, while a handful was left, not really impressed. Avi, Class 12 student, Dimapur shared that she was keen on pursuing a Journalism degree after her 12th and the fest provided her with the information that she was seeking. Similarly, her classmate Anung also said that through the fest she has already chosen a college for Hotel Management, a course she wants to pursue.
Alka, an aspiring medical student, however was left disappointed. She candidly revealed that ‘some’ of the Institute professionals could not explain the course properly to her. “Some people were not able to explain what we are looking for,” were her exact words. She also said that to get a good seat in a prestigious Medical College, which is her ultimate goal, one would require a percentage of 90% and above. However, she said that at the fest she was told that being an OBC candidate she would require only a 45 % average. “I expected to be told that I would have to study well, and score good percentage,” said Alka.
A faculty member at the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, also stated that the fest was a good way for faculties from universities to meet the students and receive feedback and interact, while also the students can directly be in contact and obtain information and clear doubts with the university and course of their choice. “It is a win-win situation for all of us,” he said. He also said that nowadays, the internet itself has all the admission details of almost all universities, but sometimes it could be too much information.
A parent also opined that edufest is really helpful as it allows parents to find out information about course fee, admission requirements, hostel facilities, placements, starting salaries etc.  Edufest over the last nine years has emerged as the biggest Spot Admission exhibition of NE India covering Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya & Tripura. The fair is organized by Lynchpin, Premier Indian and International Education and Career Fair Organizer.
