NE first private township in Guwahati

Guwahati, February 1: With an investment of Rs 3,000 crore, Shristi Housing Development Ltd is developing North East India’s first private sector-integrated township in Guwahati. Shristinagar Guwahati is spread over an area of 250 acres at Kharguli Hills extension, along the Brahmaputra. The project envisions residential villas, multi-storied apartments, educational institutions, hospital, retail and commercial zones and a club house having a total built up of more than 12 million sq ft when fully constructed.

Nestled in the hills, Shristinagar hopes to offer to its residents the uniqueness of water front views, uplifting hilly breeze, landscaped greens and unparalleled access to sunshine.

The decks for the project were cleared after the ministry of environment and forests granted clearance in August 2009 and the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) approved the township plan in June 2010. Infrastructure work has already commenced at the site and project will be developed in phases.

When fully operational, Shristinagar will house over 6,000 families and will be self-sustainable. A green expanse, it is located just 7 km from the Guwahati CBD and promises all the amenities that usually accompany a truly world-class lifestyle.

The township will also have state-of-the-art healthcare with best medical facilities at its hospital and educational facilities at par with the very best in the world. Multiplexes, designer boutiques and supermarkets will jostle for space inside the township.

The Shristinagar project aims at transforming and establishing Guwahati’s identity as one of the premier business, residential, entertainment and lifestyle hub in northeast. It will also feature a deluxe resort, a luxury hotel and fine dining with a wide range of cuisines to choose from.

In an interaction, Sunil Jha, Managing Director of Shristi Housing Development Ltd., spoke of the benefits that the Look East Policy can bring to the region. “We believe that the Look East Policy would position Guwahati at the forefront of growth and development.” Guwahati, he said, enjoys certain unique advantages due to its geographic location and is the hub of trade and commerce. “Equipping Guwahati with a township matching global standards is just a step forward in this direction,” he added.
